Ray was born on February 13, 1923 in Escanaba, MI to Andrew and Victoria (Hart) Anderson. On November 18, 1952, Ray married Midred B. Poster in the chapel at the Saint Paul Cathedral.
Ray went to elementary school in Kansas and went to Kensington High School in Minnesota, graduating in 1941. Ray attended Augsberg College in Minneapolis and North Park College in Chicago before entering the Army Air Corps duing March of 1943. Ray's training and tour of duty were all stateside. While in the service he became a single engine pilot in August of 1944 and was honorably discharged November of 1945. After the service he attended the University of Minnesota graduating in June of 1948.
Ray spent two years working at a Minneapolis bank before taking a job with the U.S. Treasury Department as a National Bank Examiner for the Comptroller of Currency. While examining he was stationed in Fargo, ND for five years and Sioux City, IA for two. In 1957 he moved his family to Wisconsin Rapids and was employed by the First National Bank. He retired as a Vice President in 1985.
Earlier in life, Ray was a treasurer for twenty years of the Wood Co. Unit American Cancer Society, member of the Bull's Eye Country Club and Elks Club, and was a board member of the Paper Cities Baseball Association (when it was affiliated with the Minnesota Twins). Ray enjoyed spending time with family, taking vacations to see relatives and going to polka festivals and dances (you may even say he was a polka fanatic).
Ray is survived by four children: Mitchell (MaryAnn) Anderson, Coleen (Jeff) Oliver and their children: Alicia, Eric and Chelsea, Dayton (Julie) Anderson and their children: Brian, Mark, Elizabeth, Eric and Emily, Jocelyn (Randy) Johnson and their children: Gabriel and Natasha; five great-grandchildren: Spencer, Shae, Kiya, Hanna and Sydney; brother, Willie (Dorothy) Anderson; and sister-in-law, Nell Poster. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mildred, son, Ryan, brother, Warren, sisters, Miriam and Virginia, and many brothers and sisters in-law.
Memorials may be designated in Ray's name to the Shriners Hospital for Children-Chicago.
Ray's children wish to thank the staff at Arborwood Loge and Arborview Court for their kind care of Ray while he lived there.
