Forrest B. Marty Jr.

SMITHFIELD - Forrest B. Marty Jr, 89, of Smithfield, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 18, surrounded by his loving daughter and son-in-law. He was the husband of the late Barbara (Oldham) Marty, and son of the late Forrest B. Sr. and Doris (Feddern) Marty.
Forrest is survived by his daughter Holly Shadoian and her husband Charlie of Foster and his grandson Jeff of Palo Alto, CA. He is also survived by his grandson Kameron, son of Kerry Marty, of Greenville.
Born in Whitinsville, MA, he grew up in Woonsocket and was a member of the Woonsocket High School Class of 1943. Since graduation, he chaired his class reunions. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, serving aboard the USS Dayton as a radioman. Following the service, he attended Bryant College and graduated from the former Hill College in Providence.
His began his career at Slatersville Finishing followed by the U.S. Rubber Co. He was the regional credit manager for Texaco until his retirement, following which he worked for Cooley Roofing and Astro Med. Known for his sense of humor and joke-telling talent, he also loved fishing and golf. He and his wife loved to travel, and visited nearly two dozen countries over the years. He was proud to have been part of the Honor Flight program to Washington, D.C. in 2013.
He was Past President and member emeritus of the RI chapter of the National Association of Credit Management, and past member of the VFW in Slatersville, Smithfield Elks, Portuguese American Club and he served as president of the parents association at Rhode Island College in the early 70's. His favorite place to gather with friends was the Stillwater Tavern (formerly Crickets).
Visiting hours will be held on December 21 from 4-8pm including a service at 7:30pm at the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main Street in Woonsocket. Burial will be private at the Union Cemetery in North Smithfield. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
