Floyd C. (Poppy) Denton

ZANESVILLE: Floyd C. (Poppy) Denton, age 84 of Zanesville, OH died Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at Helen Purcell Home Zanesville.

He was born Saturday, May 25, 1929 in Zanesville the son of William Denton and Mary (Wisehart) Denton. He was married on Saturday, September 17, 1955 to Jenny (Brune) Denton who preceded him in death on Sunday, March 10, 1996.

He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. He Served in the United States Army during WWII, and was a past member of Sertoma and Toastmasters. He was a Police officer for the City of Zanesville, an Insurance Adjuster for Continental Insurance Co. and served as a City Councilman. He was a graduate of the Meredith Business College.

He is survived by two daughters Tonetta "Toni" (Bob) Brehm of Columbus, Ann Marie Lasure of Zanesville; Six grandchildren, Michael (Andrea) Brehm of Columbus, Joseph Brehm of Athens, Nicholas Brehm of Columbus and Andrea, Jeffrey, and Jamie Lasure all of Zanesville; Great granddaughter Emily Brehm of Columbus; Brothers Elmer Denton, of IL Ralph (Sue) Denton of Zanesville; three sisters Mary Davis, Conesville, Dolly Spaulding of Zanesville and Becky (Allen) Howard of Zanesville; sisters-in-law Carol Denton and Jean Denton both of Zanesville; one brother in law, Dominic (Lee Ann) Brune of Zanesville; many nieces and nephews and a host of beloved friends.

Addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by seven brothers Herman, Fred, Paul, Loren, Robert, Donald, Ron Denton and one sister Laverne Hayman.

Friends may call Friday, November 22, 2013 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Hillis, Combs & Nestor Funeral Home 935 Forest Ave. Zanesville where a christain vigil will be held at 7:45 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Zanesville, with Fr. Stephen Dominic Hayes as celebrant. Burial will conclude in the Mt Calvary Cemetery Zanesville with VFW Post 1058 conducting full military honors.
