George A. Buchanan

ZANESVILLE: George A. Buchanan, 81 of Zanesville, passed away at 8:17 am on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.

George was born July 16, 1932 in Chandlersville, the son of the late Pearl and Fern (Taylor) Buchanan.

He served as County Commissioner for Muskingum County for two terms; he worked as a real estate broker for over 20 years and auctioneer for over 50 years; he founded Buchanan Auction Services / Real Estate and Buchanan Carpets, he was an avid supporter of the Local High School events and the Muskingum County Fair; he was a member of the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church and he served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War.

George is survived by his wife Clare Buchanan whom he married December 5, 1953; his children Beverly (Doug) Guinsler, Randy (Hope) Buchanan, Diane (Eric) Phillips, Ron (Diane) Buchanan, Brian (Katrina) Buchanan and Timothy (Tonya) Buchanan; two brothers, Joseph (Nancy) Buchanan and Gene Buchanan; his 19 grandchildren and five great- grandchildren.

George is preceded in death by his brothers Herbert, Dayle and Kenneth Buchanan; and a sister Edith Farus.

Visitations will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm Thursday, September 26, 2013 at the Farus Funeral Home in Duncan Falls where funeral services will be 1 pm Friday with Rev. Linda Morrow officiating. George will be laid to rest in St Paul cemetery with full military honors by VFW post 1058.
