Howard S. "Mitch" Mitchell

ZANESVILLE: Howard S. "Mitch" Mitchell, 81, of Zanesville, passed away Monday, June 9, 2014 at Cedar Hill Care Center surrounded by his loving family.

He was born July 13, 1932 in Zanesville, Ohio the son of the late Howard Mitchell and Celesta (Carlos) Knicely.

Howard retired from Nickles Bakery after 30 years of service without missing a day of work. He served in the Korean Conflict as a military police officer in the U.S. Army. Howard never met a stranger and loved to help people and was known as the family mechanic. He was a member of Coburn United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dolores (Mautz) Mitchell; son, Greg (Teri) Mitchell; daughter, Stacey (Jeff) Agin; granddaughters he adored, Kara (Ryan)Schockling and Kinsley Mitchell; sisters-in-law, Barbara (Jim) Lewis, Rose Mautz Forsythe, and Joanne Mitchell; stepmother-in-law, Shirley Mautz; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents he was preceded by brothers, Virgil and Ivan Mitchell, mother-in-law, Erla Factor, father-in-law, Fred Mautz, brother-in-law, Freddy Mautz, sister-in-law, Geraldine Mitchell and niece, Paula Lewis.

Friends may call 6-8:00 pm Wednesday, June 11, 2014 and Thursday 10-11:00 am at DeLong-Baker & Lanning Funeral Home where services will be held Thursday at 11:00 AM with Rev. Doris Flynn officiating. Interment will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
