Larry "Joe" Sowers

CORNING: Larry "Joe" Sowers, 71, of Corning died on Monday, February 03, 2014 at his home.

Born October 17, 1942 in Crooksville, Ohio to the late Ellis Theron and Della Pearl McFarland Sowers.

He was a United States Marine Corps Veteran, serving from 1964 to 1968, during Vietnam; life member of AMVETS Post #0051 of Thornville; life member of VFW Post#9090 of Crooksville and a life member of the Roseville American Legion Post #0071.

Member of Saint Bernard Catholic Church of Corning, Ohio.

Survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary Demp Sowers of the home; children, Cherry Sowers (David Alfman) of Bremen, John Theron (Sue) Sowers of Colorado and Kathy Blair of New Straitsville; three grandchildren, Jeremy Adam Sowers of Corning, Andrea Dawn Sowers of Logan and Joseph Lee Blair of New Straitsville; three great granddaughters, Emma & Katelynn Williams and Payton Dawn Sowers; two sisters, Hope (Robert) Coleman and Sheila Garey (Frank Enczi); several nieces and nephews, including special nephew, Everett "Dick" (Eleanor) Tracy.

In addition to his parents, preceded in death by father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Betty Bernadine Demp; brothers and sisters, Douglas, Ellis Jay, Byron Lee, Theodore and Donald Eugene Sowers, Lelia Kay Sowers Moore, Gwendolyn Undean Bradshaw, Mary Jane Sowers and Barbara Ann Sowers.

Calling hours will be held from 2-4pm & 6-8pm with Rosary at 7:45pm on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at the Roberts-Winegardner Funeral Home, 304 Mill Street, New Lexington, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Saint Rose Catholic Church, Main and Water Streets, New Lexington, Ohio with Father John Reade as celebrant. Burial will be in Community Gardens Cemetery with graveside military services.
