Annie Mae Countiss was born July 4, 1939 in Hopkinsville, Kentucky to the late Gabriella Tandy and Wes Moore. She completed her life’s journey on Monday, November 6, 2006 at Fort Washington Hospital, Fort Washington, Maryland. She was the third of ten children.

Ann acknowledged Jesus Christ as her personal savior early in life and was a member of the Lane Tabernacle CME Church. She was educated through the Hopkinsville, Kentucky School System where she graduated from Crispus Attucks High School. She later enrolled in Kentucky State College. She completed her education at Grady Nursing School in Atlanta, Georgia. Afterwards, she became employed at Brooks Memorial Hospital. On July 31, 1965 she was united in marriage to Francis “Jerome” Countiss, Sr. at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Hopkinsville, Kentucky. She relocated to Maryland with her husband. As result of their union they had two sons, Francis “Jerome” Countiss, Jr. and Marc Countiss. After several years she resumed employment at Cheltenham Youth Facility. She was also employed in the food retail industry. Subsequently, she retired from Sam’s Club in 1998.

Ann and Jerome were married for 40 years. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, gospel music and caring for her grandchildren. Also, she liked to attend flea markets and collecting clowns. Her heart and home was open to all. She was an advisor, confidant, care giver and anchor for her loved ones. If you knew her you would know that she was honest and straight forward.

Ann was recently preceded in death by her husband Francis “Jerome” Countiss, Sr. She was also preceded in death by three brothers Henry Finch, Eddie Tandy and George Tandy; two sisters Margaret Tandy and Gabriella Brown; two sister-in-laws Jeannette Countiss and Gladys Windsor.

Ann is survived by her two sons; Francis “Jerome”, Jr. and Marc; two grandchildren, Mia and Marc, Jr.; one daughter-in-law, Chyerelle. Ann also served as parental guardian for Ellis Majors, Gloria and Angelica Tandy. She also leaves to cherish her memory two Aunts Mary Wilson and Alice White both of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; two brothers, John Anderson, Glasgow, Kentucky and Milton Tandy, Clinton, Maryland; two sisters, Ozetta Williams and Jayne Tandy, both of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; one sister-in-law, Blanche Countiss; one brother-in-law, Louis Countiss; A host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Her Viewing will be held on Monday, November 13, 2006 from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Thornton Funeral Home, 3439 Livingston Road (State Route #227) in Indian Head (Pomonkey), Maryland. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2006, 12 noon at St. Mary’s of Piscataway Catholic Church, 13401 Piscataway Road, Clinton, Maryland. Her Interment will be in Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, Maryland.
