Vincent was known for his tough guy characters and he appeared in multiple movies about the mafia.

Vincent, born Frank Vincent Gattuso Jr.in North Adams, Massachusetts in 1939. He started his acting career in 1976 in the low-budget crime film “The Death Collector” with Joe Pesci.
He appeared again with Pesci and Robert De Niro in three Martin Scorsese films, “Raging Bull,” “Goodfellas,” and “Casino.” In “Goodfellas,” he had a memorable role as mobster Billy Batts.
In “The Sopranos, Vincent played Phil Leotardo, the rival of Tony Soprano. In the final episode of the series, he was killed on orders from Soprano.
Vincent also appeared in Spike Lee’s “Do the Right Thing” and “The Pope of Greenwich Village.”
In keeping with his tough guy image, he wrote a non-fiction book in 2006 called "A Guy's Guide to Being a Man's Man."

I was completely shocked as I had not heard that Mr. Vincent passed back in Sept. 2017! I have a fond memory of meeting him in Willowbrook Mall in Wayne New Jersey in December of 1992 after taking my 3 month old daughter to have pictures taken with "Santa!!!" I was star struck having seen him in so many movies. He was a fantastic actor. Surely one of the very best. My condolences to Franks family. I still watch all the movies he's been in especially Good Fella's! He is now an Angel in heaven with James Gandolfini who I also had the opportunity to meet and watch him film a few episodes of the Soprano's he filmed at a good friends house at the time, in North Caldwell, NJ. Two of the GREATS!!! I have lit a candle and will continue to watch all that you've ever acted in. Thanks Frank, for being such a kind man and the best at your craft.

First off, our condolences go out to the Vincent family and anyone who ever knew him. Mr. Vincent was a great actor in Goodfellas, Casino, Raging Bull and of course as "Philly" in The Sopranos, among other movies, cameos, commercials and music videos. He will be truly missed, and his portrayal of a wiseguy mobster was above and beyond. Lastly, my family and I want to say thank the rapper NAS, for his heartwarming tribute to Mr. Vincent. I was so surprised and sorry to learn of Frank Vincent's passing. My sincre condolences to his family who have him in real memories while we, his fans, have him in film memories. However, I have a personal memory of him. I met him on the set of Casino in which I was a very brief extra. I conversed with him about my son Steve Conte who met Frank at Steve's haircutter girlfriend's NYC apartment where Frank got his haircuts. Unfortunately I could not remember where he met my son but he was gracious enough to wish my son good fortune in his musical career. Frank then introduced me to Dan Conte who was also on the Casino set as an actor who received his name in credits at the end of the movie and several other movies. Dan is a cousin of famous actor Richard Conte of Jersey City, NJ. I will never forget Frank Vincent and his friendly down-to-earth manner, nor his acting roles. Rest In Peace Frank. Sadly, John Conte

He was so good at playing wiseguys, that REAL wiseguys would shoot at him in the streets!! Fantastic talent.. My favorite scene was from Raging Bull when Joe Pesci went to hug him after their brawl in the bar.. he was the consummate character actor. RIP Mr. Vincent and thank you for the memories.

Your acting was real and on point,making each role your own. You would come to our Family Christmas Tree Lot in Nutley each year to pick up your tree until we closed our business in 1999.
