A private memorial service was held recently for longtime Albuquerque resident Jean Hedberg. Jean died October 28, 2015, at Honor Health in Scottsdale, Arizona. She was 86.
Jean was born in Glenwood, Iowa on September 6th, 1929, the younger daughter of Gerald and Geraldine Fickel.. While attending Iowa State University she met Bob Hedberg, and they married in 1950. They raised three children--Kathy, Steve, and Will.
Jean went on to get her undergraduate and doctoral degrees at the University of New Mexico, and taught in the Honors Program there for many years--serving as director for for a timeâ€"and retired to Regina, NM, in 1991.
Jean moved to Arizona for health reasons, and in 2008 resumed teaching at Rio Salado College. At the time of her death she had planned to teach a fall course on William and Henry James.
Jean leaves behind daughter Kathy Wilds; sons Steve Hedberg (Melida) and Will Murphy (Becky); grandchildren Will (Ana Olenina) Hedberg of Scottsdale and Gina (Rob) Shereda of Dexter, MI; great-grandson Alan Hedberg; and longtime companion Evar Nering.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Therapeutic Riding in Ann Arbor, Michigan, or to the Mary Jane Miller Scholarship Fund in Glenwood, Iowa.
