Chavez, Karl D.

Karl D. Chavez, age 48, died peacefully in his home on January 18, 2017. He was born May 23, 1968 and was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque.

Karl attended St. Charles Catholic school and Highland High School, graduating in 1986. He attended the Anderson School of Management at UNM as a Presidential Scholar, graduating in 1990. He was a talented athlete in soccer, basketball, golf, and tennis. He played soccer for 40 of his 48 years. He coached freshman basketball at HHS for two seasons with his team scoring a record 102 points in one of their games. He was a life-long Steelers fan, an avid reader, and enjoyed writing. He was a fine wood craftsman like his father.

Karl was a funny, warm-hearted, loving friend to many. A man of courage, honesty, and integrity, who will be sorely missed, but long remembered. He left too soon.

Karl is survived by his mother, Ann Docter Chavez; his father, Max F. Chavez and his life partner Rita Gianinni; his brother David; his sisters, Lisa and Lauren; his niece, Victoria; his grandfather Abe Nungesser of Valencia, CA; aunt Patricia Magnuson; aunt Carmen Duran of Las Vegas, NV; many cousins, other family members as well as his cats Thunderball & Ruby.

A celebration of Karl's life will be held at O'Neils Pub on Central , February 11, 2017 from 1-4. A memorial mass will also be held at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church following the celebration at 5:00.
