Senaida "Sadie" Benavidez passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, November 14 after a long illness surrounded by her devoted children and extended family.
Sadie was born on May 21, 1931, in Gallinas, New Mexico. She married her husband, Ben Benavidez, in 1956. Together they raised five children and traveled across the United States and Germany while Ben served in the U. S. Army.
Upon Ben's passing in 1971, Sadie and her children moved to Albuquerque where she lived for the next 44 years in her home on El Rito Ave. It was this home that became the center of activity for the neighborhood kids and then later in her life for all her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Sadie also worked for Amity Leather Company until her retirement in 1993.
She is survived by her five children, Michael and his partner Lillian, Carla, Martha, Ben and his wife Frances, and Phillip and his wife Bridgette; grandchildren Bernadette, Christina, Stephany, Amanda, Jenna Marie, Benjamin, Sara, Helen, Sean, and Adam; and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by an extended family of brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and family friends who remember her kindness, generous nature, and beautiful spirit.
A Rosary and Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 23 at 10:15 AM at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna Rd NW. Burial will be on Saturday, November 26 in Gallinas.
