Vivian Chavez, age 75, passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2016, after a long battle with cancer, surrounded by family and friends. She is a long time standing member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in La Joya, and a member of The Legion of Mary for 45 years. Vivian was born in San Francisco, NM, in 1941 to Ramon and Ramona Lopez and 14 wonderful brothers and sisters, two in heaven (at birth).
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ramon and Ramona Lopez; sister, Lydia; brothers, Benny and Sims; and sisters-in-law, Helen, Della, and Esther.
Vivian is survived by her loving husband, Jose (Tony) Chavez; three loving children, Rose Marie Gallegos and husband, Dan, Pamela Doster and husband, Dave, and Raymond Chavez; three loving grandchildren, Alejandra, Micah, Makayla; six brothers, Benny, Elusim (Sims), Johnny, Tony, Estevan and wife, Theresa, Richard and wife, Lucy, Ernest and partner, Toni, and Chris Lopez; five sisters, Vicky Baca and husband, Gilbert, Lydia Pino and husband, Toby, Julia Cano, Patsy Lopez, and Eileen Lopez; uncle, Avelio Silva; and aunt, Elfeda Benavidez. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
All services will be held at the San Antonio Catholic Church in Abeytas, NM, on Friday, November 4, 2016. A Viewing will begin at 11:00 a.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 11:30 a.m., and a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. Interment will be held on Monday, November 7, 2016, at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 9:45 a.m. Please sign Vivian's online tribute at
