Julia Lesh Obituary

Julia Roberta Goodwin (Graves) Lesh, 96, passed away May 10 at home.

Julia was born July 21, 1915 in Iowa City, Iowa. She graduated as an RN from Madison General Hospital School of Nursing, Madison, Wisconsin in 1936 and married Earl Francis Graves D.V.M. In December, 1940 she and Dr. Graves came to the Matanuska Valley where Dr. Graves served as Territorial Veterinarian. It was Dr. Graves second time serving in that position, as he served it 1927-1930.

In 1952 they left Palmer and government service. Dr. Graves went into private practice in Anchorage. He passed away in 1960.

They were among the founding members of the Alaska Kennel Club. They raised Cocker Spaniels for show.

Julia was a charter member of both Matanuska Valley Chapter #14 and Denali Chapter #1 OES, and was Past Matron of the latter.

She served as a head nurse at the Public Health Alaska Native Service Hospital in Anchorage 1959-1974. In 1974 she married Sumner Lesh. Mr Lesh passed away in 2002.

She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Mary and Charles Zahn of Concord, California, daughter Victoria Ault of Anchorage; two grandsons and five great-grandchildren. Her son, Thomas, pre-deceased her in 1968.

No local services were held and burial will be in the Graves family plot in Manhattan, Kansas.

Arrangements were with Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
