Maybelle H. German went to be with our Lord on March 23, 2013. She was born October 16, 1927 in Glenburn, North Dakota. In 1954, after graduating from Minot State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education, Maybelle, her brother Arden, and her sister Ardis traveled the Alcan Highway to begin their new life in Alaska.
Maybelle went to work for the Anchorage School District as a teacher, test administrator, and school counselor. She taught at North Star Elementary School and Mears Junior High School. During her 30 year career she took time out to earn a Master's degree in counseling from Western Washington State College.
Maybelle traveled the world with her good friends Leah Hoffman and Margo Cook, including trips to Africa, Australia, China, the Middle East and Europe. Maybelle was a devout Catholic and long time member of Holy Family Cathedral. She was generous to the charities she cared for and volunteered her time to the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary. She was active in the Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Organization.
In addition to her many world travels, Maybelle enjoyed reading, baking with her nieces and nephews, gardening, and taking long walks in the Alaska splendor. Maybelle will always be remembered for her compassion, kindness and generosity. She will be dearly missed by the many family and friends who loved her.
Maybelle was preceded in death by her parents, and 8 of her 10 siblings. She is survived by her brother Arden German (Shirley) of Vancouver, Washington and sister Lorraine Bradley of Denver, Colorado. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including Mark Glore (Sara) of Anchorage, Kim Koopman and Susan Quackenbush (Will) of Salem, Oregon, and Greg German (Valyre), Michael German and Nancy Engbrecht (Lonnie) of Vancouver, WA.
A funeral Mass will be held April 19th at 1:00 p.m. at St. Edward Catholic Church in Keizer, Oregon. Committal will follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens in Salem, Oregon.
