Professor Alan Kraft, Criminal Justice Program Manager, passed away on Sunday, March 24, after an illness. He was 65.
Kraft became a full-time faculty member at Seminole State in 2001 after serving as an adjunct Professor.
He began his law enforcement career in the U.S. Air Force as a security Police Officer. In 1970, he was honorably discharged and joined the Daytona Beach Police Department as a Police Officer. During his seven and a half years with the Daytona Beach Police Department, he worked in patrol as well as in a robbery stakeout unit. From 1977-1998, he worked for the Anchorage Police Department. While employed in Anchorage, he worked in uniform patrol, was in charge of the Hostage Negotiations Unit and was the senior trainer and lead investigator in the Domestic Violence Unit.
Kraft was selected in 1982 to attend an 80-hour command school for hostage situations at the FBI Academy.
He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Human Services and his Master's Degree in Business Organizational Management.
An informal gathering to remember Kraft was held on Thursday, March 28, at the Brevard Memorial Funeral Home in Cocoa.
The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Foundation for Seminole State College to benefit the Criminal Justice Department, or to the Animal People Inc. animal rescue organization.

As a reporter, I spoke to Alan on a regular basis during his time with APD. He was always professional and friendly. He was devoted to the protection of the residents of Anchorage and was a very good officer. We are all better off thanks to Alan's service.
