James Pinneo Obituary

Former Alaska resident James S. "Dr. Jim" Pinneo, 87, died Nov. 13, 2009, in Newberg, Ore.

A memorial service was held at Grace Baptist Church in Newberg.

"Dr. Jim" was born Jan. 15, 1922, in Newark, N.J., to Frank W. and Mable Irene (Skilton)

Pinneo. He attended Newark Academy, then The King's College in New Castle, Del. In his third year of college he was drafted by the U.S. Army and served in the European Theatre.

He finished his undergraduate degree at Houghton College, then entered medical school at Temple University in Philadelphia. During his surgical residency at Episcopal Hospital he met Lois Castor and they were married Aug. 18, 1951. They both believed the lord was calling them to be missionaries in Glennallen, and arrived there in 1954.

"Dr. Jim" served at Faith Hospital (now "Cross Road Medical Center") until retiring in 1987. He and Lois moved to Diamond Lake near Big Lake and went on 11 short-term missions, primarily with Operation Mobilization.

In 1998, James was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. They moved to Newberg, in 2001.

His family said, "Dr. Jim placed Jesus Christ first in his life and was an example of steadfast, loving service to all he met."

He is survived by his wife, Lois, of Newberg; sister, Lily Pinneo, Sebring, Fla.; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Lilly Pinneo, Newberg; daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Doug Walker, Wilmore, Ky.; son, Ken, Anchorage; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Brent Lince, Hillsboro, Ore.; grandchildren, Vincent Pinneo, Phoenix, Ariz., Jennifer Tackett, Wasilla, Chris and Andrew Pinneo, Newberg, Johnny Walker, Tanzania, Africa, Kevin Walker, Lexington, Ky., Danielle Anderson, Charlottesville, Va., Sara Pinneo, San Diego, Calif., Megan, Alex and Bethany Lince, Hillsboro; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Joy Rugh and Rose Pinneo.

His family members suggest that donations in James Pinneo's name may be sent to Wycliffe Bible Translators, www.wycliffe.org, designated for Johnny Walker, grandson of Lois and Jim, who is continuing their missionary legacy.

Attrell's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

To the familly of Dr. Pinneo, what a physical loss so I send condolences to you but with that I also know he is with the Lord and is rejoycing and I think of all those that were waiting to greet him.

Dr. Pinneo delivered my first child in Glennallen 45 years ago. I remember his quiet encouragement and the spark in his eye when talking. He is one of the people who influence you that you never forget.

My prayers and thoughts will be with you in the days ahead.
