William Stewart Obituary

William Grant Stewart was born on May 2, 1953, and he died on Sept. 19, 2015, at the age of 62. Grant is the oldest child of Ann and Paul Stewart, who live in Bakersfield, Calif. Grant's father was in the Army and the family moved to Camp Eielson, Alaska, where they lived for a few years. At a young age, Grant fell in love with Alaska, and he wanted to live here after he graduated from college. He followed that dream in 1979, after he graduated from BYU Law School, when he and his little family moved to Alaska. They first lived in Anchorage, but in 1982 they moved to the Mat-Su Valley, and have lived in Wasilla ever since. Eventually Grant opened his own law business, where he loved serving his clients. Grant loved to hike, fish, go camping and play board games with his family. He also was an avid reader and a keen student of American and World History. Grant was an active Boy Scout Leader and has served in many different areas of the program. He looked forward to the times when his troop would take off on "50 Mile Hiking Trips," or sleep over night in snow shelters to earn their "100 Below Badge." He is survived by his parents, Paul and Ann (Chamberlain) Stewart; and his siblings, Robert (Candie) Stewart, Carolyn Stewart, Pam (Jerry) Hootman, Cheryl (Chuck) Smotherman and Debbie (Heber) Farnsworth; and his children, Israel (Rebecca) Stewart, Daniel (Rose) Stewart, Jessica Stewart, Esther (Adam Pigg), Jeremiah (Stephanie) Stewart and Josiah Stewart; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Matthew Stewart; and his son, Isaiah Stewart. His funeral will on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, on Bogard Street and beside Wasilla High School in Wasilla, Alaska. The viewing will be at noon and the service at is at 1 p.m. There will be a special tribute to Grant's involvement in the Boy Scouts of America and boy scouts are encouraged to wear their uniforms.001411

I know that we will miss Grant and his gentle ways. He was and is still a great example of what our heavenly father would like us to be. Our prayers and love to Suzzane and the family.

A younger Grant and Suzanne moved to Anchorage. Suzanne gently laid her babe into my arms for a moment, and later tended our girls, asking about Singapore on Rachel's shirt where we visited but she had lived. Those are our earliest memories of Grant and Suzanne, friends and neighbors, as our family paths crossed in many ways over the decades. Grant and Suzanne are truly very fine people who led their family and epitomized their values: self-less service, Christian charity, kindness to all, integrity and honor. We missed our wonderful friends after they moved to the valley. Suzanne, you are a virtuous woman, very dear, a pillar of strength, great, strong and valiant. You and your family are in our prayers. Love and hugs to you.

Grant and I worked together in several capacities in the Boy Scout program. He was always willing to assist in Training and Commissioner work when asked. I enjoyed working with Grant. He lived by the Scout Oath and Law. My condolences to the Family.

The judges and staff at the Palmer court were very sorry to hear of Mr. Stewart's passing. He was a fine man, always fair, well prepared, kind, and reliable. His word was his bond, and we all enjoyed having him in court. The local bar is going to miss him, as will all of us at court. I regret that I am scheduled to work on Saturday afternoon, so I will not be able to attend the service for Mr. Stewart, but I will be thinking of him and his family.
