Phillip Gribble Obituary

Phillip Joseph Koonuk Gribble Sr., 72, passed away on July 3, 2015, at home in Anchorage, Alaska. Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2015, at Legacy Funeral Homes Heritage Chapel, 440 East Klatt Road in Anchorage. Phillip was born on Dec. 10, 1942, in Ottawa, Ill. He served in the United States Marine Corps, receiving an honorable discharge. He moved to Alaska in 1980, making Anchorage his home. He worked as a truck driver for AFS Construction Services and then at Red Dog Mine, where he retired from. He enjoyed going out camping and fishing with his wife and two sons, taking his boys out golfing and many other activities with his wife and sons. His family stated, "Phil will be greatly missed by all family. He was such a humble man and treated everyone with love and compassion. He was truly a man of God, always loved to take his family to church." He was preceded in death by his parents, Nolan and Yvonne; parents-in-law, James and Hannah Hawley; and his brother in-law, James Hawley Jr. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Alice Hawley Gribble; two sons, "PJ" Phillip Jr. and Nolan James; stepchildren, Hilda Hawley, Samantha Hawley and Jamy Bob Perry Hawley;three brothers, Kenneth, Denney and Nowell; and many other relatives. Memorial donations can be sent to 4110 Debarr Road Space E8, Anchorage, AK 99508. Arrangements entrusted to Legacy Funeral Homes Witzleben Chapel. So sorry to hear of Phil's passing. I remember him from Red Dog. My thoughts & prayers are with you and the children at this difficult time.
