Anchorage resident Gwen "Chubby" Jackson Conway, 63, entered into his final rest on July 29, 2013 at Providence Medical Center surrounded by his love ones. He had the end stages of renal care due to diabetes complications and was an intensely strong fighter amongst his many medical battles.
He was born November 10, 1949, in Big Spring, Texas. At the age of 17 he valiantly served in the United States Army
and by also serving in the United States Air Force
and was a Vietnam Veteran
. He was an avid fisherman and mechanic and Alaska was where his heart was.
He had a charismatic personality and was a very caring person you would have enjoyed meeting. He was an excellent pool player, a dedicated team supporter for the Dallas Cowboys, loved cooking, barbequing, and he especially enjoyed spending time going fishing or camping.
He touched many lives while he was here and will live on in our hearts and memories forever.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Eddie Conway.
He is survived by his son Anthony Conway and daughters; Cherie Morris, Amanda Gonzalez, Gwendalyn Conway, Santierra Burks and by surrogate daughter Ebony Simms. His grandchildren; Jahlil Smith, Malyah Conway, Tiana Gonzalez, Malaki Conway, Dameon Gonzalez and Reginald Andre Morris IV.
He is survived by his sisters and brothers; Sandra "Mike" Block, Joseph Conway, Lawrence "Chuck" Conway, Trudy Conway, and Darrell Conway. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews and many other family relatives dear to his heart including his former long time companion Theresa Schloesser-Ohler.
A memorial visitation will be Tuesday, August 6th at Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel on Klatt Road from 1-2 pm. He will be laid to rest with full military honors at Fort Richardson National Cemetery in Anchorage Alaska. To attend the service at Fort Richardson you will need to be at the gate by 2:30 pm.
A reception will follow at Jewel Lake, 8110 Jewel Lake Road, Anchorage Alaska.
