Jean Miller

Long time Alaska resident, Jean Marie Miller passed away peacefully, surrounded by family in her Anchorage home.

Jean was born June 14, 1936 to Angeline and Zigmunt Piotrowski. She and her sister, Helen Piotrowski were raised by Angeline Piotrowski in Cleveland, Ohio.

Upon graduating nursing school at the age of 23, she moved to Alaska (1959), where she worked as a registered nurse in Sitka, Kotzebue, Nome, Barrow, and ultimately ended up in Anchorage, finishing her career as an RN in 2000 at the Alaska Native Hospital.

Jean raised four children with Lee Miller in Indian Valley along Turnagain Arm.

Full of generosity for others, Jean enjoyed cooking, telling stories of her many Alaskan adventures and traveling with friends and family worldwide (river rafting in seven countries!) She was an award winning gardener and loved hunting mushrooms and berry picking, as well as hiking and taking pictures. She was an avid reader and loved taking cruises.

Always a loving mother and grandmother, Jean is survived by her four children, Heidi M Miller of Anchorage; Genevieve L Conley (John M Conley) of Flagstaff, Arizona; Michael C Miller (Susan Miller) of Indian Valley; Lynn J Miller of Wasilla. Her grandchildren Kyle W Miller of Anchorage; Ivan Conley, Adam Conley and Sage Conley of Flagstaff, Arizona.

Jean was preceded in death by her mother, Angeline Piotrowski; and her sister, Helen Piotrowski.

A funeral mass will be held April 30, 2014 at 3pm, Holy Cross Catholic Church at 2627 Lore Rd, Anchorage, AK 99507 off Lake Otis Road. Reception celebrating Jeans life, immediately following.
