Nancy Schafer

Nancy E Schafer passed away peacefully on September 26th when surrounded by family. Born June 17, 1939 in Rochester, NY, she attended the University of Rochester and earned a PhD in Corrections from the University of Michigan. Dr. Schafer moved to Anchorage in 1983 and taught at the University of Alaska Anchorage from 1982-2002, where she earned many professional honors and became the Director of the Justice Center at the University. She was a strong, caring and generous woman, a loving mother, a doting grandmother, and a good friend. She had a great sense of humor and a big heart, which was clear in her love for her children, friends, and animals, particularly her dog Barkis. She will be remembered and missed by her two daughters, her two grandsons, her brother and numerous friends, particularly those in Alaska who have cared so much for her.
