Richard E. Erickson Sr.(1928 - 2014)

Richard (Dick) Erickson, 85, formerly of Anchorage Alaska, departed this life on Saturday, February 1st, 2014, at his home in New Braunfels, Texas. Dick was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on March 21, 1928, to the late Hazel and Clarence Erickson. After graduating high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps in 1946 and served as parachute rigger and noncommissioned officer until 1949. He married Jean Gilbert two years later, on September 13, 1951. He attended the University of Miami, played football and received a bachelor's degree in Business Management. In 1953, Dick entered the United States Air Force Reserve and served as a Commissioned Intelligence Officer until 1962. Dick moved his family to Anchorage in 1976 and went to work for Coroon and Black Insurance. In 1980 he started Erickson Insurance Agency. From 1996 to 2006 he partnered with his son Cris in opening and operating Key Insurance Agency. Dick was a member and active supporter of the Alaska Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers Association, Ducks Unlimited, Shriners, Masons and Optimist Club. He was a licensed pilot, rancher, horse enthusiast, hunter, fisherman, scuba diver and explorer. Dick is survived by his wife, Jean Erickson, of Ft. Collins, CO; and seven children; Debra Jorgenson, of Ft. Collins, CO; Pamela Vogus (Tim), of Wasilla, AK; Richard Erickson Jr.(Annette), of Palmer, AK; Scott Erickson, of Beeville, TX; Eric Erickson (Jolean), of Laramie, WY; Cris Erickson (Chanda), of New Braunfels, TX; and Michael Erickson (Bernadine), of Anchorage, AK. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held in Anchorage, Alaska on Saturday, July 19, 2014, at Muldoon Road Baptist Church, 382 Muldoon Road, at 1:00pm. Anyone who knew him is invited to share with family and friends.
