Michael Reed Obituary

Michael Reed, 63, passed away on Oct. 24, 2015, of natural causes at his home in Eagle River, Alaska. He was born in Lawton, Okla., on Oct. 16, 1952, and has been a resident of Anchorage, Alaska, since 1959. Michael was a construction laborer #972, and worked on the oil pipeline from 1976 to 1985. He also worked on the Exxon Valdez oil spill in 1989 and on fishing boats until he was injured in 1992. Some of his favorite hobbies were working on cars, fishing, boating and dip netting on the Kenai. His family says he was a wonderful husband, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend to many. Mike had a warm and humorous side to him. He was patient and friendly to everyone, even strangers. Michael is survived by his wife, Linda M. Reed of Eagle River; sisters, Olivia (Roland) Munson of Anchorage and Brenda Reed of Soldotna, Alaska, Tammy (Ronald) Scroggins of Missouri and Kim (Donald) Norton, also of Missouri; and brother, Sidney Reed III of Anchorage. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including Benjamin Colman Reed of Anchorage. He is preceded in death by his mother, Patsy R. Reed; father, Sidney R. Reed Jr.; and brother, Gordon C. Reed. A visitation will be held at 1 p.m. on Nov. 5, 2015, at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Eagle River, with a service at 2 p.m. His ashes will be scattered at Resurrection Bay. Arrangements are with Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel, Anchorage, Alaska.
