Shannon Duke Obituary

Shannon Aspen Duke was born in Montana on Feb. 13, 1975, and raised in Alaska, graduated from Dimond High School, and married Sam in 1995. She worked for FedEx and later for the Anchorage School District as a teacher's aide for the resources classroom. Shannon was a Sealaska shareholder. For many years she was a stay at home mom devoting her energies to her children and their friends. She championed any child she met that needed a second chance for success. Her family and friends speak of the impact Shannon had on their lives by loving everyone she came in contact with and generously welcoming all into her home. Shannon learned from her challenging experiences growing up and made sure that everyone she encountered was treated kindly. She was generous with encouragement meant to help build your confidence. She raised her children to have the same values. Many young people called her "Mom." Friends and acquaintances describe Shannon's great sense of humor (with a pinch of craziness!) - she always kept us laughing at family events. The hugs she insisted on giving us healed whatever had gone wrong for you that day and let you know she considered you special. There has been an outpouring of love and warm reflection on how Shannon impacted everyone she encountered. Shannon and Sam created a close knit family, part of a large extended family that invested energy to take care of one another as well as many others God placed in their path. She is survived by husband, Samuel; son, Corbin; and daughter, Caylee; sisters, Kristina and Signe; brother, Bronson; the David Swanson family; a large extended family in Alaska; and many friends. She is predeceased by her mother; stepfather; and maternal grandmother. Arrangements are by Legacy Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held at Changepoint Church, on Jan. 15, 2016, at 4 p.m. A Gofundme account to help defray expenses has been established at gofundme.com/pcyvf9jd.

Dear Sam and Family - My heart hurts at the news of the loss of your loved ones. I did not know Shannon or Chloe but Sam, you and your parents were our neighbors in Muldoon--you and my daughter Heather Crawford were best 5-6 year old friends. I wish you peace and strength and hope you can reflect on happy memories to get you through this sadness.

With deep sympathy for the loss of Shannon and Chloe. Although I didn't know them personally, Shannon Moore, whom I work with, shared with me what a fantastic friend she had been over the years. I look forward to when we can meet in heaven. God Bless you during this difficult time of loss.

Dear Duke Family, you are in my thoughts and prayers. I'm sorry I never had a chance to meet this lovely woman. My brother and sister-in-law, Rick and Deloris, have told me of Shannon's kindness and great character; she sounds like a very special person. I'm grateful for my connections to the Dukes, and I send my love from Munich.
