William Mullaly Obituary

William Thomas Mullaly the son of Edmond James Mullaly and Elizabeth Cecelia Thomas Mullaly passed away on October 17, 2013 at Providence Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska at the age of 88 years.

He was born in Mamaroneck, New York and came to Alaska in 1946 shortly after his service in World War II. He was an ensign and radio operator in the Merchant Marine in WWII participating in the Atlantic, Mediterranean Middle East and Pacific War Zones. He was also awarded a combat bar with a star for having to abandon ship on the SS Francis Asbury when it was destroyed by a bomb in the North Sea.

He retired in 1981 after working for the Federal Aviation Administration for 30 years and the Alaska Railroad for 5 years in Administration. He was an active pastoral service group leader for Muldoon Community Assembly for many years at the Anchorage Pioneer's Home, Mary Conrad Center and Providence Extended Care. He was a person of strong abiding faith. William was also a loving family man and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his sister Mary Elizabeth Cordell and brother-in-law Donovan Cordell of Longmont, Colorado; daughter Rose-Colleen Mullaly of Anchorage, Alaska; daughter Sharon Potter and her husband Charles W. Potter of Prattsville, New York; estranged wife Betty Jean Mullaly of Wasilla, Alaska; step-daughter Margaret Baldwin of Palmer, Alaska and step-son Bruce Baldwin of Washington; he is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother Edmond James Mullaly, Jr.; sister Catherine Marie Tooma and his first wife Clara Thompson Mullaly.

A memorial will be held on Wednesday, October 23rd on the 5th floor Tundra room at the Anchorage Pioneer's Home located at 923 W. 11th Avenue at 10:30am.

A burial will take place at Fort Richardson National Cemetery with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers please send donations to your favorite charity or VFW post.

Arrangements are with Janssen Funeral Homes.

I was saddened to read about the death of Bill. He was a very kind and knowledgeable man. Bill was a member of our American Legion Post #4 which is held inside the Anchorage Pioneer Home. Our condolenses go out to the family and we appreciated having the opportunity to know your loved one.
