Alec John was born on March 15, 1940, in the Old Village across the Copper River. He was born in his grandfather's house Chief Big Jack, and lived there until his mother moved across the river to Copper Center, Alaska, in 1954.
He gained his angel wings on Jan. 19, 2018, at Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska.
Alec's infectious smile will never be forgotten, and silly jokes will always remain in our hearts. His family was truly blessed with his giving spirit and warm heart. Alec joined the Army in 1957, and later graduated from the 101st Airborne, Company A, 1st Battalion, 3rd Brigade. Alec used his earning to support his family back home. His mother was happy to able to buy flour and sugar. He was honorably discharged.
Alec Married Ruby Tansy in the spring of 1971 in Fairbanks, Alaska. They moved to Ruby's home town and that is where Alec remained and raised his family. In July 1972, Ruby and Alec opened up the Tsesyu Gas Station in Cantwell, Alaska. The gas station was built by Alec and his brother, Wayne. In the following years his sons were born. He raised his sons to pump gas and work in the store almost as soon as they could walk. People always told him how they liked seeing the boys grow up throughout the years. The gas station also raised other children in the family. He liked to talk about the celebrities that would stop by the store on their way to Denali National Park. People really loved the family spirit of the gas station. Later the grocery store and then a restaurant was added.
Alec is survived by his three sons, Vance Wilson of Northway, Alaska, Alec Tansy John and Jay Tansy John; grandsons, Jalen and Braeden John; brothers, Markle Pete, Wayne Bell, Carl Pete and Stevie Pete; and sister, Anna Bell-Hand; and Alice Hand; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by wife, Ruby Tansy John; father, Mentasta Pete; mother, Mary Bell; stepfather, Lloyd Bell; and sister, Wanda Bell.
