Long time Alaskan Alice Gordon passed away on Nov. 30, 2015, in Wasilla, Alaska, at 84. Funeral Services will be held from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 13, 2015, at Valley Funeral Home 151, East Herning Ave. in Wasilla. Interment will follow at Aurora Cemetery. Alice was born in Dillingham, Alaska, to a commercial fishing family and community. She was raised there in the 1930s and 1940s. At 16, she traveled to Seattle, Wash., on a steam supply ship. She commercial fished, hunted, picked berries, canned, trapped, smoked and salted fish as a child and young adult, helping her family. At 20 years old, Alice Olson traveled to Anchorage, Alaska, to be a nanny, meeting her future husband; she married Harry D. Gordon on Feb. 28, 1952. She was the life of the party, enjoying passing the knowledge of her subsistence lifestyle onto whoever wanted to help and share some good times. She joyfully opened her home and heart to all, feeding them thrilled her: fresh bread, homemade jams and jellies, cookies, cakes, cinnamon rolls and, oh boy, the pies. She loved her sweet treats - right up to the last month of her life a sweet treat lifted her spirits. Flowers were also a passion, gardens of flowers, giving fresh cut flowers to family and friends was the next best thing to feeding them. The nurturing people that assisted her at the home called her Momma, it fit so well. Alice is survived by her sons, Bert and Chris Gordon of Wasilla, Ron Gordon of Wasilla, Dan and Anita Gordon of Kenai, Alaska, and Gary and Pamela Gordon of Wasilla; daughter, Linda and Dale Vickers of Philomath, Ore.; granddaughters, Vannessa and Mickela Olson of Anchorage, and Heidi and Holly of Wasilla; grandsons, Brad Gordon of Boise, Idaho, Caleb Gordon of Casa Grande, Ariz., Jacob Gordon of Anchorage, and Jesse Morgan and Andy Morgan of Auburn, Wash.; plus 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband, Harry D. Gordon; son, Mark Louis Gordon. Yes, to know her was to love her!
