Angel Jose Sargento, beloved family man, community leader, dedicated business owner and longtime Alaskan, passed peacefully at his home on Dec. 18, 2017.
Angel was born in Makati City, Philippines, to Alejandro and Guadalupe Sargento in December 1939. After working in Manila as a peace officer and accountant, he immigrated to Alaska on April 25, 1973.
His wife, Elsa, and first child, Achilles "Lex," followed him to Anchorage, Alaska, in 1974, where Angel worked in a fish processing plant and then worked for the Anchorage School District and Alyeska Pipeline Service Company, as an accountant.
A community leader, he championed the Filipino Community of Anchorage Alaska Inc in 1978, Filipino Political Action Group in 1989, the Alaska Federation of Filipino Americans Inc in 2003, and worked alongside his wife, Elsa, and the generous hearted people of Alaska to launch Bridge Builders of Anchorage in 1996.
Angel's love of Alaska spanned from teaching his children to fish to helping families establish homes, operating Manila Realty as a Real Estate Broker-Owner for 39 years.
Angel is preceded in death by his parents, Alejandro and Guadalupe Sargento; siblings, Pablo, Matilde, Wilfredo, Conrado and Leopoldo. He is survived by his siblings, Aquilino, Virginia and Orlando; his wife, Elsa Malapit Sargento; his children, Achilles "Lex," Golda and Ryan; his grandchildren, Micah, Aliyas, Esco, Mahalya, Lahliya, Jericho and Luca Christian; and his flower and vegetable garden.
