Arletta Jean Belcher, long time resident of Anchorage, Alaska, passed away following a continued battle with heart disease. She was surrounded by family and ended peacefully in Tacoma, Wash.
Arletta was born into the loving arms of Roy and Gertrude (Snow) Jensen, who resided in Blackwell, Wis. She attended Wabeno High School and, through grade 12, she was the top of her class. Later, she moved to Anchorage, where she worked as a secretary. Soon after, she married and continued her life raising a family of four boys.
Split between living in Alaska and Wisconsin, there was never a dull moment. Arletta enjoyed the great outdoors, whether it was picking blueberries, panning for gold, boating and even racing snow machines. We have the trophies! Her creative side was evident of all the amazing blankets she had hand quilted for her friends and family.
She permanently settled in Anchorage in 1973, and worked from time to time as a bookkeeper. Her most diligent endeavor, shared with her husband, was devoted to taking care of their son Robert Scott, who was disabled in a work accident. She later volunteered at St. Benedict's Church, working in the Rummage Room. Arletta was benevolent, kind, loving and will certainly be missed.
She is survived by her four sons, Jay (Debbie), Scott, Kelly (Carrie) and Brian; her four grandchildren, Dustin, Stacy, Liam and Laurel; and her five great-grandchildren, Kayla, Allison, Emily, Noah and Willow. Arletta will also be fondly remembered by her sister, June; and her brother, Donald.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Robert E. Belcher; her sister, Dorla; and her brother, Ronald.
Services will be held at Saint Benedict's Catholic Church on Oct. 6, 2017, at 12 p.m. Celebration of life for Arletta will be held after services, between 1 p.m. - 5 p.m., at Pipers, 3450 Aviation Avenue. We hope all her friends and family can join us, if not in person, in spirit.
