Clam Gulch, Alaska, resident Mr. Arnold Samuel Vachss, 78, died on Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, at his home in Clam Gulch.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, at The Masonic Lodge, 518 East 14th Avenue, the corner of 15th Avenue and Eagle Street in Anchorage, Alaska.
Arnold was born on Jan. 21, 1939, in Stamford, Conn. He moved to Alaska in 1973, living in Anchorage for a long while before moving to Clam Gulch. Arnold retired from Fort Richardson Civil Service Department in 2000.
The family wrote: "He was a kind heart whose greatest joys were taking care of and giving to those he loved. The perfect example of what a father and grandfather should be."
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Vachss.
Arnold is survived by his daughter, Michelle (Shelli) Ogren of Clam Gulch; son-in-law, Eric Ogren of Clam Gulch; granddaughters, Maryah Buren of Anchorage and Miranda Buren of Anchorage; grandson, Lt. Aaron Buren CEC, USN of Chesapeake, Va.; granddaughter-in-law, Priscilla Wood-Buren of Chesapeake, Va.; great-grandsons, Josiah of Anchorage and Mason of Anchorage; and great-granddaughter, Navaeh of Anchorage.
Memorial donations may be made to Alaska Shriners, 1930 East Northern Lights Blvd, Anchorage, AK 99508.
He will be laid to rest at the Huntington Cemetery in Massachusetts.
