Arthur James Jones 84 passed away at home on July 7, 2018 to be with our lord after a battle with Congestive Heart Failure. He passed away peacefully with his family caring for him in his final days.

He was born in Candle, AK and raised by his maternal grandparents and lived a traditional lifestyle traveling between Candle, Kiwalik, and Buckland. He went to White Mountain for school, eventually transferred to Mt. Edgecumbe Arts High School where he drafted into the army. He served his time in the army engineers between August 1953 and October 1955. Arthur was stationed in Guam and Ft. Greely. After proudly serving two years in the army he was discharged honorably, he went to Kotzebue and worked at the store where he had met his wife Katherine (Downy) Jones. Arthur and Katherine Married and raised their only daughter Christine. After working at the store in Kotzebue, Arthur worked at the school for 5 years before moving to Anchorage in 1972 and since then he and his family have lived here in Anchorage. For a short amount of time Arthur worked for the Rail road company and moving onto his next job as an expediter while completing his high school diploma. He retired happily in 1988 with 30 years of service for the federal government.

Arthur loved spending his free time camping, fishing, and hunting. He loved going for long car rides to find a good restaurant to go eat at with his family. Often taking his grandchildren with him because he loved them and enjoyed doting on them.

Arthur is survived by his wife of 58 years Katherine Jones and Christine Panamarioff and son in law Dax Panamarioff. His three grandchildren Payge, Mason, and Katherine Panamarioff. His Brothers and Sisters : Mike and Dorothy Sherman from Palmer, Danna Sherman from Anchorage , Peggy and Chuck Fagerstrom from Nome, Thomas Sherman from Chenega Bay, Gail and Lary Evanoff from Chenega Bay, Nancy and Louie Green from Nome, Jake and Glenda Sherman from Nome, Savella Simpson from Mt.Vernon, Wa, Dixie Grandmatre from Lebanon, Missouri, and Alice Collins of Anchorage.

Memorial service will be held at Maranatha Full Gospel Fellowship 3451 W. Dimond Blvd. in Anchorage, AK at 3pm Saturday July 14th. Viewing will be held July 17, 2018 at 11:30 Am at Evergreen Memorial Chapel 737 E St. Anchorage, AK and burial at JBER at 1:00 PM.
