Audre J. Yonkin, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, passed away on Feb. 20, 2018.
Born on April 2, 1938, to John and Ethel (Cale) Datta in Wibaux, Mont., Audre grew up in Wibaux until 1954, when the family moved to Glendive, Mont.
Audre attended a one room country school, three miles from home; her cousin would pick her up in a horse and buggy to drive her to school. She finished high school in 1955, and later attended Business College.
On Dec. 24, 1955, Audre married Joseph J. Crawford at the age of 17. They had six children: five girls and one boy.
In 1964, as a single mother, she moved to Helena, Mont., where she began a career in insurance and became the first female insurance broker in the State of Montana.
In April 1970, her brave and adventurous spirit led her to drive the Alaska Highway in a move to Anchorage, Alaska, with her brother's family. Her brother says she was the most incredible, giving person he's ever known.
In 1971, she married Eugene T. Yonkin, to whom she was married for 47 years.
Audre owned Midnight Sun Insurance Agency and later, Greatland Vending. She succeeded in business, but of utmost importance was her family. She was a gifted seamstress, and enjoyed crocheting, reading and playing cards.
Gene and Audre retired in 1999 and spent years traveling the United States in their motor home and enjoying golf.
Her greatest commitment was to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who redeemed her life from poverty and abuse to a life of great love and service. Her only desire is to be reunited with all of her family one day.
Audre was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ethel Datta; her daughter, Carla; and her grandchildren, Kenny Crawford and Faith Gallagher.
Audre is survived by her husband, Eugene Yonkin; her daughters, Elaine (Hershel) Cecil, Carol (Mike) McKinney, Debbie Aguila and Lorna (Rob) Albaugh; and her son, Jodie Crawford; her brother, Calvin Datta; sisters, Gail Hoehn and Kitty Westbury; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at ChangePoint Church on Friday, Feb. 23, 2018, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations, in honor of Faith Gallagher, to the Tears Foundations, 11102 Sunrise Blvd. E., Suite 112, Puyallup, WA 98374.
