Barbara Jo Doerner, 66, was born March 28, 1948 to the union of William and Gilda Matthews in Chicago Heights, Illinois. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend. She loved to laugh, dance, read a good book, enjoyed baseball, teaching Latin, listening to a good story and could talk your ear off. Whenever stepping outside the door she was always put together and had a great fashion sense. Barbara could be authoritative when needed but like Jesus was very loving in her approach. Barbara, affectionately known as "Mrs. Doerner", served as principal and teacher for 15 years at Holy Rosary Academy. She was a very devout Catholic who lived by her Catholic faith. She "talked the talk and "walked the walk" while leading countless students by her example, as they graced the halls of HRA. Barbara entered into eternal life on September 6, 2014. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband of 34 years Thomas Doerner; seven loving children Miguel, Shara, Brandee, Karrisa, Ryan, Kyle and Mary Kate, nine grandchildren, Shanaia, Monique, Maria, Jeranimo, Michelle, Davina, Larissa, Brayden and Ava Michelle; two sisters Michelle (Mike), Jan (Steve), and numerous nieces and nephews. Please join us for a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church on Thursday, September 11th at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Barbara J. Doerner Memorial Scholarship fund at Holy Rosary Academy or The Wounded Warrior Project. Arrangements are with Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
