Barbara Rae Mayer, age 78, passed away on July 13, 2017, in Palmer, Alaska.
Barbara was born on March 6, 1939, in Buffalo, N.Y., to Ray and Dorothy (Knoles) Schory.
Barbara raised her children in Angola, N.Y., and moved to Anchorage, Alaska, in 1981.
She was a Master Seamstress and Tailor. She made wedding dresses, quilts and provided alterations for many, many years.
She was also a Master Gardener and received recognition from the Mayor for her beautiful landscaping, which contributed beauty to their community.
Barbara loved Alaska; she became very involved in the Native Culture. She loved the Iditarod and became an Ida-rider. She, most recently, went on another big ride when her three great-grandchildren pulled her on a sled this past winter. She also spent a lot of years involved with the Alaska Association for Family and Community Education.
The family wrote: "Her family meant everything to her. The impact of her love and generosity will always be with us. Her son, Michael, and spouse, Pooch, left this world to soon. We know she's with them now."
Barbara is preceded in death by her late husband, Noah Osborne; and son, Michael Mikolajczak.
She is survived by her son, Bill Mikolajczak and his fiancee Cheri Bissonett; her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Paul Schranz; grandson, Donald Johnson III; granddaughter, Misty Dittbrender; great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Alivia and Noah; and brother, Carl Schory and family.
Her extended family included: Terra Schranz and children, Tavian and Matayah; and Josh Donn and children, Rissa and Akston; the Bissonett clan; the Orts clan; and the Osborne clan.
She touched so many people's lives there are too many names to mention.
Family and friends held a Celebration of Life in her memory at the Alaska Zoo in the greenhouse. She held a yearly pass there for as long as the family could remember.
