Soldotna resident, Mrs. Betty Lou Boyd Green, 86, died July 28, 2017, at Heritage Place in Soldotna.

A memorial service was held 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, 2017, at the Ninilchik Senior Center in Ninilchik.

Betty was born July 8, 1931, in Las Cruces, N.M. She attended Ninilchik grade school, Anchorage High School and Audiology Training. She came to Alaska with her father, Hugh Boyd, and younger brother, Bobby Boyd, in 1944. In 1948, Betty married Harry Leman in Seldovia. They set up a home in Ninilchik and had five children. They lived in Ninilchik and Anchorage off and on through the years. She worked for the State of Alaska, in the Bush for Public Health and on the Slope. Betty loved hearing preaching from the Bible, old hymns and her King James Bible. She also loved music, singing, playing accordion and piano; raising birds; rescuing dogs; and corresponding with worldwide Internet pen pals. She would pray much for family and friends. After Betty's husband, Robert Green, passed away in their home in Reno, Nev., she wanted to return to Alaska. In May of 2016, she came back to Ninilchik and loved living in her little apartment with her rescue dog, Misty, and her finches. After her stroke in December 2016, she was unable to go back home and spent her last days at Heritage Place in Soldotna.

Preceding her in death were her granddaughter, Heather Leman, and husband, Robert Green.

She is survived by her daughters, Karen (Wes) Tegeler of Wasilla, Stephanie (Dave MacCormack) Leman of Anchorage and Patricia (Craig Cirello) Leman of Corvallis, Ore.; sons, Harry "Butch" Leman and Boyd Daniel (Jamie) Leman of Ninilchik; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Donations to Alaska Animal Rescue (rescueme.org) will be accepted in lieu of flowers. She would love for you to rescue an animal, as well.
