"Pete" passed away peacefully on Aug. 25, 2017, with his family by his side at Providence Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska. Pete was born in Sallisaw, Okla., on Aug. 31, 1934, one of 13 children. He is survived by his siblings, Wanda Rinehart and Elmer "Hoppy" Estep.
He married his childhood sweetheart, Carole June White. Pete is survived by his beloved wife, Carole, of 60 years. They had three children: Eric, Ericka and Carmen. He also had three children from a previous marriage: Debra, Pat and Jerry.
Pete, Carole and their three children moved from Muskogee, Okla., in 1965, to Peters Creek, Alaska, and opened an auto mechanic shop in Eagle River, Alaska. He was well respected in his field. He raced cars from the '50s to the mid-80s. Pete was highly successful on the race tracks. He also enjoyed fishing and traveling. Pete was the owner and "PR man" of Tips Bar for 26 years.
Family and friends will miss his talented voice, guitar playing and his since of humor.
He had many close friends throughout his long life.
Pete had 14 grandchildren: Michael, Shelli, Tamara, Brittany, Brett, Jonna, Courtney, Jacob, Cody, Seth, Bridget, Faith, Bianca and Sachel; and nine great-grandchildren, Van, Jason, Abby, Nathalie, Wyatt, Ella, Mona, Bianca, Bengi and Chloe.
A celebration of life will be held at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017, at Tips Bar in Eagle River, Alaska.
The family takes comfort in knowing that he accepted Jesus as his Lord and savior one year prior to his passing and look forward to being reunited with him in heaven for all eternity.
