Lifelong Alaskan Carmella Michelle Furnace, 40, died July 29, 2007, after surgery at Providence Alaska Medical Center.
A funeral will be at noon Monday at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Visitation is 10:45-11:45 a.m.
Carmella was born Aug. 30, 1966, in Anchorage. She attended Susitna Elementary and Wendler Junior High schools, graduating from Bartlett High School in 1984. Carmella majored in communications at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
Her enjoyment of working with the public led to a career in real estate. Starting at GMAC Mortgage Co., Carmella was most recently employed at Residential Mortgage LLC and worked 17 years in the industry.
Her family wrote: "Carmella's passion was caring for her family, planning their getaways and traveling with them. She enjoyed mystery novels, creating artistic expressions and hosting dinner parties. Carmella accepted Christ at an early age and was a lifelong member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church."
Carmella is survived by her fiance, Jon Burton; two sons, Alonzo and JonOmari Burton; parents, Walter and Patricia Furnace; sisters, Samantha Furnace, Tara Burke, Dana Coleman and Perdita Barber; grandmother, Ruth Quarles; nephews, Taraine Burke and Jaden Furnace; and niece, Jordan Furnace. She has also left behind a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, co-workers, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, L.D. Birdow and Janet Medlock; maternal grandfather, Eddie Lott Sr.; grandfather, David Quarles; uncle, Eddie Lott Jr.; and brother-in-law, Troy Burke.
Arrangements are with Kehl's Forest Lawn Mortuary & Crematory.
