Charity Ann Dunham passed away peacefully at Providence Alaska Medical Center, at the age of 84, on May 11, 2017, surrounded by family. Charity was born on June 12, 1932, in Freeport, Maine, to Clarence and Gladys (Goldrup) James. She was the youngest of five children.
Charity grew up in Yarmouth, Maine, and graduated from North Yarmouth Academy in 1950. Charity married Wayman "Ray" Dunham and they had two daughters, Debra and Mary. They were married for 40 years.
Charity cherished returning to Maine to visit her family and friends. She also enjoyed Las Vegas, Nev., where she loved to play slot machines for hours on end. She was an avid reader, enjoyed watching baseball, in particular the Boston Red Sox, and a faithful Tudor Bingo Center patron.
Charity was a wonderful mother who worked hard throughout her life until retiring, at the age of 73. Her career included 16 years at Down East Village Restaurant in Yarmouth, Maine, and manager of several 7-11 stores in Bradenton, Fla., retiring in 2005. She moved to Anchorage, Alaska, to live with her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. In late 2015, she moved into the Providence Horizon House apartment, which she thoroughly enjoyed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Ray (1991); brother, Clarence; and three sisters, Arline, Faith and Hope. She is survived by her daughters, Debra Davis and husband Tom of Freeport, Maine, and Mary Morton and husband Nate of Eagle River, Alaska; six grandchildren, George Libby Jr. and wife Emily of New Gloucester, Maine, Michael Libby and wife Melissa of Durham, Maine, Susan Colavecchio and husband John of Lilburn, Ga., Nathan Morton III and wife Jennifer of Palm Bay, Fla., Andrew Morton and wife Ricki and Douglas Morton and wife Cheryl, all of Anchorage; 13 loving great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her childhood best friend, Carly York of Yarmouth, Maine.
Our family is greatly appreciative to the Providence Horizon House and the Providence Medical Center Staff.
Charity's remains will be interred with her husband, Ray, at Riverside Cemetery in Yarmouth, Maine, at a later date.
