Long time Alaskan Charlene Mae Russell, 62, died peacefully on Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska.
Charlene was born in Anchorage and in her last three years lived in Eagle River, Alaska. In the 1970s, she married Joseph Russell, moved to Georgia, and raised two children. She eventually divorced and moved back to Anchorage.
Charlene was a gentle and kind person who always kept a joyful attitude despite the many conflicts she faced in life. She was deeply involved in the studies with the Jehovah Witnesses during her last year. Her enjoyment was spending time with family and friends at potlucks and other gatherings.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter R. and Anna Thomas; and a brother, Christopher Thomas. She leaves behind her two children, Connie and Patrick Russell; along with a few grandchildren; her sisters, Daisy Clark, Cheryl Gargrave and Elizabeth Heimburger; her two sisters-in-law, Margret Thomas and Erin Thomas; and her brothers, Walter Jr., Erroll and Ronald Thomas.
A burial service will be held on Friday, July 28, 2017, at 1 p.m. at the Anchorage Park Cemetery, 535 East 9th Avenue. Afterward, the family will celebrate Charlene's new journey at 20965 Eastside Drive in Peters Creek. Anyone is welcome to join.
