Charles William Niemann, 87, passed away from colon/rectal cancer on Feb. 26, 2018, at home in Anchorage, Alaska. He was born on Nov. 17, 1930, in Binghamton, N.Y., and became an Anchorage resident in August 1966.
Charles served in the United States Air force and retired as a FAA Air Traffic Controller.
Charlie was a hard-working, honest man, whose priority was providing for his family, and being a faithful father and a loyal friend. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing on the boat he built, "Hard Labor," snowmachining at his hand-built willow cabin with family and friends, or crafting fine-wood furniture, remodeling homes, repairing cars or any project that required him to be out "just making sawdust."
A service will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at 1 p.m., at Muldoon Community Assembly, 7041 DeBarr Road, Anchorage, AK 99504. Fay Niemann will be officiating the service.
Charlie is survived by his daughters, Janet and Rita Niemann, both of Anchorage; son, Charles W. Niemann Jr. of Anchorage; daughter-in-law, Fay Reilly Niemann of Anchorage; granddaughter, Nicole Marie Niemann of Anchorage; brother, Fred W. Niemann of Chenango Forks, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Jean Niemann of Chenago Forks, N.Y.; numerous nieces and nephews; and lots of fishing buddies from Seldovia, Alaska, and cabin friends from Willow, Alaska.
He is preceded in death by his father, William Niemann of Chenago Forks, N.Y.; mother, Louise Niemann of Chenago Forks, N.Y.; sister, Caroline White of Chenago Forks, N.Y.; and wife, Catherine Niemann of Anchorage.
Arrangements are with Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
