Christopher "Saak Eesh" Pullen passed away on Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017, at age 26. He was the oldest of Tara and David Carey's three children.
Chris was a graduate of Service High School. He attended the University of Alaska Anchorage. A lifelong resident of Anchorage, Alaska, he was employed at Verizon. He loved boxing, weightlifting, playing bass guitar, co-hosting podcasts and spending time with family and friends. Chris filled many sketch pads with his drawings and was a history buff. He played basketball during his school years. Chris trained at a variety of gyms, however his home gym was at the Alaska Boxing Academy.
Chris was thoughtful, compassionate and mindfully cared for others. He uplifted the people he interacted with and was the best friend to many people. He also inspired those around him to be their best version of themselves. Chris loved his family and was equally revered by them. He represented his multicultural identity of Tlingit, Nisga'a and African American with equal enthusiasm.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Anita and Chris McNeil Sr. Chris leaves his parents, Tara and David Carey, Markien Smith; sister, Shah-yee Giraud-Smith; brother, David Carey III; Nana Helen McNeil and Kovey Stewart; many cousins, aunts, uncles and extended family.
Chris will be remembered by his sense of humor, passion for helping others and dedication to family. He had aspirations to improve the world one person at a time.
Memorial service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017, at 2 p.m., at New Season Christian Center, 639 West International Airport Road in Anchorage. A celebration of life ceremony will follow at 5 p.m. at the Nuka Learning and Wellness Center tribal drum, 4085 Tudor Centre Drive in Anchorage.
