Cloyd T. Moser was born in Grover, Wyo., on July 11, 1931, to Dorothy Lovina Hepworth Thurman and Erwin H. Moser. Cloyd was a mischievous child with a love of the outdoors, his horses, dogs, and books. His only sibling, Cecelia, was born in 1940; despite their age difference, they were always extremely close. Cloyd adored his mother, a school teacher, who instilled in him a thirst for knowledge. He graduated from Star Valley high school in Afton, Wyo., in 1949 and attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho, graduating in 1956 with degrees in zoology and psychology.
Cloyd took a hiatus from college to serve in the military from December 1953 to September 1955, serving in Georgia, California, and Korea. Cloyd married Glenda Nielsen on March 30, 1956, in Lewiston, Utah, and cherished her through nearly 60 years of marriage, the birth of six children (including triplets!), and decades of chronic illness, until her death in 2013. Cloyd said that one of his greatest desires was that his children have relationships comparable to his marriage to Glenda.
Cloyd's first job out of college was as a grade school principal in Geneva, Idaho. He then worked nine years for the Atomic Energy Commission as a health physicist before moving to Alaska in 1970 with his wife and children. After working for Sears for a year, Cloyd began working in real estate, continuing in this profession into his 80s. Cloyd will be remembered by his family and friends for his perpetual sense of humor, his fondness of Alaska and the outdoor adventuring it provided, his advocacy for exercise and good health, and his unyielding love for his family.
Cloyd passed away Nov. 16, 2017. He was preceded in death by his wife, Glenda Nielsen Moser; and is survived by their children, Cinda Kay Moser Roberts (Rick); Nikki Dee Moser Johnson (Arthur); Lorna Moser Acton (Dan); Lauri Moser Ek-Watson (Lewis); Linda Moser Morgan (Tim); Wynn N. Moser (Jamie); nineteen grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; and his sister, Cecelia Moser Fife, her three children, and their families.
Cloyd's funeral services will be held at the Latter-day Saints chapel at 2501 Maplewood Street, in Anchorage, on Monday, Nov. 27th, at 2:00 p.m.
