Cornell Blackmon, age 62, passed away November 22, 2013 at the Providence Horizon House in Anchorage, Alaska

He was born June 18, 1951 to Marvin and Ethel Blackmon in Atlanta, Georgia. He graduated from David T. Howard High School. He excelled in anything he put his mind to. He was a good student. He studied French and spoke it fluently. He was involved with ROTC as a Cadet and was a good marksman. He loved swimming; he couldn't wait to hit the water, because of that, he joined the Navy.
Cornell came to Alaska in 1993 to visit his sister and he stayed. He did well here, where he had his own business, a carpet service and decorator.
He is survived by Sheila Macon Garrison of 20 years; sisters, Margie Mathews, Anchorage; Lavern Tinch and Ann Howard, both of Atlanta; brothers, Alfred Blackmon and Willie Floyd Blackmon, both of Atlanta; sons, Cornell Blackmon, Jr., Atlanta; Tray and Del Garrison, Anchorage and Daion Doughty (Wonnie), Anchorage; daughter, Teresa Woods, Atlanta; grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held 3-6 p.m. Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the Cremation Society of Alaska, 7216 Lake Otis Pkwy, Anchorage.
