Croix Johnathan Whitbeck, beloved son of Rick and Debra, passed away to Heaven on July 19, 2013. Croix was born March 4, 2013 at the Alaska Native Medical Center to a selfless birth mother, with Rick and Debra in attendance.

From the first minute of Croix's life to his last, he showed fighting strength, working to overcome a congenital heart defect (tricuspid atresia). His parents remember Croix's wonderful grin, bright eyes, incredible attentiveness and always-happy personality with a smile. Croix slept through the night at six weeks and began teething at 11 weeks, which led to a near-constant photo opportunity of Croix with his left hand in his mouth.

His family and friends consistently commented how happy he was, and that gave his Mommy and Daddy a deep satisfaction, as Croix was the boy who fulfilled their dream of parenthood, and they loved him unconditionally.

Aside from his parents, he leaves behind his biological Mother, (Ruth Ann); his paternal grandparents, (Rich and Vicki Whitbeck); his maternal grandparents, (Ed and Lil Strout); his uncle, (Randy Whitbeck); aunt, (Susie Strout); cousins, (Caleb, Hannah, Brooke and Rowan Whitbeck); puppy-sisters, (Andi, Isabelle and Amber-Lin), and biological and adoptive family throughout Alaska and the Lower 48.

His parents wish to thank Dr. Rao and his staff at Alaska Children's Heart Center, Dr. Galloway and her staff at Providence's PICU, as well as the doctors and staff at Providence's NICU (Anchorage) and Randall Children's Hospital (Portland, OR) for their amazing medical care during Croix's time on Earth.

Arrangements were handled by the Alaska Cremation Society. A memorial service will be held at the Anchorage Baptist Temple on Friday, July 26 from 4:00-4:30 p.m., followed by an open house celebration of life from 4:30-7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a fund has been set up at Denali Alaskan FCU (acct 148204) in Croix's name. Proceeds will be used by Rick and Debra to offset future administrative expenses, as they plan to adopt another child.
