Lifelong Alaska resident Darrel Walter Whitley, 34, passed away on July 21, 2017, in Anchorage, Alaska.
A funeral service will be held at the Anchorage Funeral Home & Crematory, 1800 Dare Avenue in Anchorage, on Monday, July 31, 2017, at 10 a.m., followed by interment at Anchorage Memorial Park at 2 p.m.
Darrel was born in Anchorage on July 7, 1983, to Lyle Whitley and Carol Ann Capsul. He worked as a line cook at many popular restaurants, in Anchorage like Sea Galley (2006-2014), Applebee's (2014) and the Bradley House (2014-2015). He loved to socialize and play his guitar and his video games.
Darrel is said by his family to have been "raised tough, independent and to figure out life on his own. He was a loving uncle, brother and friend. Even though he had a choice, he chose a path not many would choose; he accepted his final destiny with courage, strength and humility."
Darrel is preceded in death by his mother, Carol Ann Capsul; father, Lyle Whitley; and several other family members.
He is survived by his brothers, Donald and Darren Capsul and Reuben Attatayuk Jr. of Anchorage.
