Darrell Gipe, 66, passed away on Dec. 7, 2017, at home in Anchorage, Alaska.
A celebration of life was held on Dec. 10, 2017, at the Buckaroo Club in Anchorage. Darrell's ashes will be scattered next summer along with his wife's ashes at his cabin on the Kahiltna River.
Darrell was born on May 17, 1951, in Kansas, later moving to Anchorage, where he graduated from Dimond High School. Darrell worked at Color Art Printing from 1972 until he retired in 2013.
His family states: "Darrell was the ultimate outdoorsman. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He spent a lot of his time at his cabin on the Kahiltna River. He loved driving his boat, the J Lynn G and riding his snowmachines and four-wheelers. He was very loyal to his friends and family and would give a helping hand whenever he was needed."
Darrell is survived by his daughters, Stacey Prasil Smith of Poulsbo, Wash., and Kristi Prasil Smith of Las Vegas, Nev.; granddaughter, Kindra Smith of Poulsbo; and grandson, Corbin Smith of Las Vegas; sister, Claudia Butler of Sweet Home, Ore.; and brother, Les Gipe of Amboy, Wash.; nieces, Myra Rains of Vancouver, Wash., Clara Butler of Redmond, Ore., and Julie Triplett of Wichita, Kan.; nephews, Jimmy Gipe of Portland, Ore., and John Gipe of Boring, Ore.; as well as his best friend, Mike Stewart of Anchorage. Darrell is preceded in death by his wife, Jodee Lynn Gipe.
Arrangements were made with Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
