David Aspelund was born to Alvin and Freda Aspelund in Kanakanak, Alaska on March 11, 1955. He grew up in Naknek. He died unexpectedly of natural causes at his home in Naknek on October 6, 2013. He was 58.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Gail (Teich) Aspelund; father, Alvin Aspelund Sr.; sisters, Ellen Pueblo, Lorri Cockrell; brothers, Alvin Jr., Roger, Shawn and North Sr.; mother-in-law, Judy Butler; sisters-in-law, Jennifer, Lucille, Tami and Kim; brothers-in-law, Jimmy Teich, James Cockrell, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Freda (Peterson) Aspelund and father-in-law, Bob Teich.

He retired to Naknek in 1997 after a successful career as an Alaska State Trooper. He experienced a full, exciting retirement through his and Gail's travel adventures. Although he was especially excited travelling, he enjoyed his daily walks stopping to pick trash left by "hooligans". He and his wife commercial fished every year. He commented that he especially enjoyed this past season.

In lieu of flowers, please hug a loved one- life is short. A Memorial Service for David will be held at the auditorium in Naknek at 5:00 p.m. Friday October 11, 2013 with a potluck reception to follow at Dolly's Hall. Gravesite Service to be held at a later date.

Arrangements are with Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
