David Spain Sloan, age 80, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family to be with his Lord on October 5, 2013 in Palmer, Alaska.

Funeral Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 10, 2013 at the Sacred Heart Cathedral, 2501 Airport Way in Fairbanks, Alaska. David's burial will immediately follow the service at Birch Hill Cemetery.
David was born November 6, 1932 in Holly, Colorado to Allen and Francis Sloan.
David served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War, aboard the USS Hector.
After his Honorable Discharge from the Navy, David began a career as an electronics technician and communications specialist. He moved to Alaska in 1960 to work at a remote Dew-Line (White Alice Systems) site for RCA. He later became a Site Supervisor for Alascom Earth Stations in Fort Yukon. He relocated to Fairbanks in 1980 and eventually settled in Palmer in 2007.
Dave was a very devote Roman Catholic, who attended Mass regularly and made pilgrimages to Rome and the Holy Land of Jerusalem.
He was an Alaskan Bush Pilot and enjoyed flying above the Yukon Flats. He had a passion for nature, enjoying long walks and bicycling. He also enjoyed spending time at his summer cabin in Central, Alaska.
Dave and his wife Delores married in 1968 and they just celebrated their 45th Anniversary.
He is survived by his loving wife, Delores Sloan of Palmer, AK; son, Douglas Smaker "Butch" of Fairbanks, AK; daughter and son in-law, Brenda and Mark Lamoureux of Anchorage, AK; grandson, Vincent David Lamoureux of Anchorage, AK; granddaughter, Alyssa Janine Lamoureux of Anchorage, AK. He is also survived by many other relatives in both Colorado and Alaska.
