The Guest Book is expired.

It is with great sadness the family of Dean announce his passing. Dean was born on April 9, 1948, in Sonora, Calif. He passed on Jan. 16, 2018, surrounded by family and friends. He was a devout Jehovah's Witness and faced his death by saying to his doctor, "I am not afraid of dying because I have the truth, and I have hope in the resurrection."
He grew up in Calaveras and Tuolumne County, Calif., but spent most of his life in Anchorage and Wasilla, Alaska. He was part of the crew that built the Malone's Dam and worked in concrete construction until building his own company, Dean James Construction, in 1992. Favorite hobbies included camping, hunting, fishing, flying his airplane, and his motorcycles. He also enjoyed reloading and crafting knives, in addition to gardening and canning. He was a talented winemaker and brewer and loved to share his spirits and peppers with all. Dean had a quick wit and kept his sense of humor throughout his life. He was greatly respected by his peers, family and all that came to know him.
Dean is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and NoraLee James; and sister, Judy Shults. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Beverly James; his children, Jennifer Koontz of Anchorage, Benjamin James of Seattle, Wash., and Kristi Jones of Central Point, Ore.; grandchildren, Drew, Ali, Azure, Clarice, Avery, Silas and Skyler; and great-grandchildren, Brynlee, Dechland and Amilya.
He is missed by all.
