Dona Hill, beloved sister, daughter, aunt, mother to everyone and friend to all, moved to a better life without burden of body, on June 25, 2017. Born on Sept. 12, 1952, she resigned peacefully and on her own terms, after a lengthy and courageous battle with Huntington's disease.
Dona was born to Donald and Geraldine (Dawson) Hill in the old Providence Hospital in downtown Anchorage,
Territory of Alaska; she spent her entire life in Anchorage, just miles from her birthplace.
After growing up and graduating high school, Dona went on to college in Yakima, Wash., and came home during the summers to work the slime line in Excursion Inlet.
In her younger years she was known for her ferocious pitching arm in softball, playing for Sheffield Enterprises, always making the opposing team take a few steps back when it was her turn to bat.
Dona excelled to become one of the leading travel agents in the state, and traveled extensively throughout the world on fam trips, finding Africa and China her favorites.
Dona later opened Dimensions Plus, a plus size clothing store and, with her sister,
Susan, made many friends, created great relationships with employees and customers, and enjoyed tremendous success.
Dona was always generous to many charities. She was devoted to Catholic Social Services and Mc Auley Manor. Another favorite was Shorecrest/Hope Cottage, where she always felt safe and at home. She gave generously of her time, hugging babies for hours on end at the NICU unit at Providence Hospital, and gave generously with support for the HUGS program.
Dona was predeceased by her partner, Brad Meyer; and her dogs, Magnum, Higgins, Harley and Hunter; parents, Gerry and Donald; and grandparents, Harry and Elsie Hill. She is survived by her beloved puppy companion, Homer; brother, Harry Hill and partner Christy Lee; sister, Susan Bergerson; nephews, James Maloney and Michael Bergerson; and all her friends at Shorecrest. An incredible hug to her devoted friend, Laurie Ford, without whose help, our family could not have survived her extended illness. A heartfelt thank you to her caregivers, Katy and Michelle, whose work was amazing, tireless and merciful.
A celebration of life will be held at The Lakefront Millennium Hotel on Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017, from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. No flowers please; heartfelt donations may be made in courtesy to Huntington's Disease Society of America, Hope Cottage or .
